Case Studies

OneFortyOne NZ Ltd – Paired Catchment Study, Donald Creek

Envirolink is engaged by OneFortyOne NZ (OFO) to operate hydrological and sediment monitoring equipment as part of a paired catchment study of forestry harvesting impacts at Tadmor, near Nelson. Envirolink is responsible for operation of all field equipment, maintenance, data collection and quality assurance to NEMS standards. The two-phase study aims to quantify sediment runoff impacts of different harvesting approaches, sediment-runoff mitigation methods and contribute to developing industry best practice. The $2.7 million project was established in 2020 and is funded 50:50 between OFO and NZ Ministry for Primary Industries.

Marlborough Shellfish Quality Programme – Marlborough Sounds & Golden Bay

Marlborough Shellfish Quality Programme (MSQP) is an aquaculture industry body responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of shellfish harvested for human consumption. Mussels are filter feeders and can take up contaminants present in waters where they are grown. Contamination potential is continuously monitored, with rainfall, river flow and salinity data used as proxies. Envirolink operates a network of rain gauges, river level / flow recorders, and moored monitoring buoys across the Marlborough Sounds and Golden Bay as part of MSQP's water quality monitoring programme. Envirolink also operates a near-real-time data hosting and information portal where growing area status is published and used by MSQP members to guide harvesting operations. Envirolink has been a trusted partner of MSQP in this project since 2011.
